General Considerations
Medicolegal considerations include ensuring adequate and detailed informed consent, presence of capacity to make medical decisions, and multidisciplinary management of victims recently sexually assaulted.
Review applicable state guidelines prior to administration to an underage patient.
Confirm patient is not currently pregnant.
May be possible to administer emergency contraception within 120 h after unprotected sexual intercourse, but ideally as soon as possible.
Adverse effects may include nausea and vomiting.
