Pseudobulbar Palsy (Multiple Strokes)
OBJECTIVES
To review clinical characteristics of pseudobulbar palsy.
To discuss pathogenetic mechanisms of pseudobulbar palsy.
To describe nonvascular etiologies of pseudobulbar palsy.
VIGNETTE
A 48-year-old man with history of arterial hypertension, cigarette smoking, prior strokes, a left atrial appendage thrombus, and heterozygosity for the factor V Leiden was admitted for evaluation of increasing difficulties with speaking and swallowing. He also had a 40-pound weight loss.
