Febrile Seizures





Generalized seizures with febrile illness (not meningitis or encephalitis). Even if recurrent, do not warrant designation of epilepsy. Usually occur between ages 3 months and 5 years.


About 2% to 5% of all children in United States and Europe have at least one febrile seizure before age 5 years. Increased risk of syndrome in siblings and offspring of affected probands.
