Minimally Invasive Lumbar Exposure


•  By use of an AP fluoroscopic image, key bony landmarks are identified:


– midline (spinous processes)


– pedicular line (lateral edge of the pedicle)


vertical


horizontal


– skin incision line


For laminectomies, the incision is made closer to the midline.


For fusions, the incision is made lateral to the midpedicular line (1.0 cm).


– The size of the skin incision is dependent upon the size of the final working portal (15-26 mm).
